Project case study 3: New house, Thornborough, Bucks.

Ground floor plan
PROJECT DETAILS:
Brief: The original brief was to provide extensive additional accommodation but it soon became clear that it would cost little more to demolish the existing property and build a new house (with no VAT on the buiding work) from scratch. The proposal, currently awaiting planning approval, comprises 5 bedroom accommodation with sun room, entrance gallery and both loft and basement accommodation. The aim is to construct a highly energy efficient building making use of passive solar gain and high levels of insulation. The use of solar panels and a heat recovery system to supplement hot water and heating is also proposed.
Accommodation: Sitting room, sun room, kitchen, dining, master bedroom, utility room and study at ground floor level; 4 bedrooms, (two with en-suite shower rooms) and family bathroom at first floor level; activity spaces at attic level; wine cellar and plant room at basement level.
Estimated Contract Value: £450,000 - £500,000.
On site: Spring 2009.
Contractor: DGS Construction Ltd, Whaddon.
